Water Fluoridation
The decision to add fluoride into Queensland’s reticulated water supplies was made by the current Queensland state government. Fluoride is added to water via the water treatment plants, which are now owned and operated by Seqwater, a Queensland state government entity.
On the Sunshine Coast, fluoride has been added to the water supply through the Landers Shute Water Treatment Plant, which only services the reticulated areas south of the Maroochy River. Fluoridation capability at the remaining Sunshine Coast water treatment plants is anticipated to be in place by the end of 2009 and includes:
- Ewan Maddock
- Kenilworth
- Image Flat
- Noosa
Maleny will also receive fluoridated water from Landers Shute water treatment plant by the end of 2009 when the Maleny water treatment plant is decommissioned.
