Multicultural Advisory Group
Advising Council on the challenges and opportunities for our multicultural communities.
The group is an important part of Sunshine Coast Council and our community. Members of the group help make the Sunshine Coast a welcoming place where everyone is included, respected and has equal opportunities.
Responsibilities:
- Giving advice on challenges and opportunities for our multicultural communities.
- Promoting the benefits of cultural diversity and inclusion.
- Advising on how to effectively engage with the multicultural community.
- Providing advice on policies, plans and services for multicultural communities.
- Supporting the Community Strategy Action Plan and Welcoming Cities initiative.
Membership
Membership lasts for two years, with an option to renew for another two years.
Meetings are held quarterly on Wednesdays from 9.30am to 11.30am at Sunshine Coast Council City Hall in Maroochydore. The 2024-25 dates are:

Advisory group members
Members of the Multicultural Advisory Group hold a diverse range of skills and professional expertise working with multicultural groups and communities.
Anna Sri
Anna identifies as a person of colour with Tamil and Anglo-Australian heritage. She advocates for a welcoming Sunshine Coast through creating connection and access to services for culturally diverse people.
David Hollinsworth
Adjunct Professor University of the Sunshine Coast. David has taught Indigenous studies, sociology, and anti-racism since 1974 at various universities. Author, researcher consultant and trainer in anti-racism and culturally inclusive practice.
Dr Maureen Khan
Originally from Fiji, Dr. Khan relocated to Australia in 2009 and spent eight years working as a doctor in the outback. Currently serving as a specialist in emergency medicine for Queensland Health, she also holds the role of Co-Chair of the CALD Committee for the Sunshine Coast Health and Hospital Service.
Linda Dennis
Settlement Engagement Transition and Support Worker at the Nambour Community Centre. Linda works with multicultural clients and leaders, organisations, and groups. She has coordinated many successful ongoing projects, programs, and events.
Peppi Bueti
Director Sunny Communications with over 25 years’ experience in communications and marketing. Peppi is also an Executive Committee member of the Maroochydore Chamber of Commerce.
Vicki Qiu
Vicki serves as the Community Action for a Multicultural Society Worker at the Nambour Community Centre, where she plays a pivotal role in fostering cultural diversity in our region. Through her efforts, she facilitates connections between migrants and the Sunshine Coast community, offers support to cultural groups, and provides job and business assistance to individuals.
Walter Nkemfack
Walter brings the African Diaspora Community together and builds relationships across all multicultural communities. He also organises regular multicultural football tournaments for the benefit of social integration.
