Welcoming Cities
Council has strengthened its commitment to cultural diversity and inclusion by signing the commitment letter to become a member of the Welcoming Cities Network.
Welcoming Cities is a national network supporting local governments to advance communities where everyone can belong and participate in social, cultural, economic and civic life.
There are over 250 member cities across the world with 76 in Australia including a mix of cities, regional and remote councils. The network is built around:
Participation will help Council to:
- Advance the region’s planning for welcome and inclusion.
- Formalise, capture and celebrate our cultural diversity and inclusion work and identify any gaps.
- Expand how the region welcomes international guests, investors and skilled migrants.
- Clearly state what the region is offering our multicultural communities.
Welcoming Cities is an initiative of Welcoming Australia which is supported by the Scanlon Foundation who are on the forefront of research on social cohesion.
