The community are invited to attend the official opening and winner’s announcement of The Holmes Acquisitive Art Prize for Excellence in Realistic Australian Bird Art, to be held at Caloundra Regional Gallery on Wednesday, November 2.

Now in its second year, The Holmes Art Prize was an initiative of local collector Dr Gary Holmes, with support from the Friends Regional Gallery Caloundra. It is the only art prize of its kind in this country and showcases Australia’s best realistic bird art artists.

The winning artist will be announced on Wednesday night (November 2) and will be awarded a major prize of $10,000 courtesy of local resident Dr Gary Holmes. The winning artwork will be acquired into Dr Holmes’ private collection.

All are welcome to attend the evening, explore the incredible artworks on display and enjoy entertainment provided by pianist Scott Gaedke. You can also get up close to some beautiful feathered friends, thanks to Geckoes Wildlife.

You can register your attendance via the gallery website and also view the finalist artworks that will be on display.

To get an even deeper insight into the exhibition, join last year's winner Katherine Cooper and finalists including Elizabeth Cogley, for an Uncovered: Artist Conversation on Thursday, November 3, from 10.15-11.15am.

Learn more about the exhibition and the artworks featured in this year’s art prize. It’s free to attend but bookings are required. You can book your place via the gallery website. Light refreshments will be provided.

The exhibition will be on display from Wednesday, November 2 until Sunday, November 27.
