A safer road at Chevallum State School

Chevallum residents and families of Chevallum State School can expect a smoother and safer road surface on Chevallum Road, thanks to road rehabilitation works between the school and Dales Rd.

Sunshine Coast Council started the major rehabilitation work over the school holidays to get a head start before school students returned.

Division 5 Councillor Jenny McKay said the upgrade was part of Council’s annual Road Reseal and Rehabilitation Program, focused on maintaining the region’s 2370km sealed road network.

“Council is committed to delivering a safe road network and is currently undertaking remedial works across the region via this maintenance program,” Cr McKay said.

“These road works will fix the previously rough and uneven road surface and make travel near Chevallum State School safer.”

Councillor McKay said Council had done everything it could to program the works over school holidays and mitigate delays.

“There may be delays of up to 10 minutes in school drop-off and pick-up times, so people should allow some extra time if travelling in the area,” Cr McKay said.

“Council will also stop work during peak times on the first few days back at school to reduce delays as much as possible for those parents who aren’t aware of the road works.

“I understand this may cause some inconvenience for school traffic and would like to thank the local community for their patience while these important improvements are made.”

“Work is expected to be completed in March (weather permitting).

Council has contacted residents who will be directly affected to make arrangements for parking or access.

Traffic controllers will also be on site and Cr McKay asked that motorists observed speed limits and controllers’ directions to ensure the safety of all road users.
