A very special Christmas for the Coast

Throwing a party for children with a disability and their families has been a dream of Cr Jason O’Pray for several years now.

This year the Councillor’s hopes have finally been realised thanks to the STEPS Charity who have stepped in to host the Sunshine Coast’s Very Special Christmas Party on Sunday, December 6, in partnership with Sunshine Coast Council.

Cr O’Pray said it often could be difficult for children with a disability to relax and enjoy an outing with their families.

“We wanted to put on an event where kids and parents could let their hair down and enjoy themselves in a disability-friendly environment”, Cr O’Pray said.

The Christmas party will be held at Cotton Tree Park on Sunday, December 6 from 3pm to 6pm. It will include carols and entertainment, fun activities for all ages, food, prizes, and Santa will be dropping by to hand out gifts.

STEPS Managing Director Carmel Crouch said she was thrilled to be bringing such a happy event to the Coast.

“I’ve worked with people with a disability and their families for more than 27 years and I know just how difficult it can be to have a nice time out without having to explain certain behaviours or be judged by others”, Ms Crouch said

“I can’t wait to see kids and their families enjoy a Christmas party completely at ease and free to have as much fun as possible."
