Adopt a new friend in need
More than 100 dogs are waiting for a new home and now you have the chance to find your new best friend. Adopt a Day, a community event, will be held this Sunday at Ballinger Sports Complex.
Have you got a home looking for a new loving and loyal family member?
Then don’t miss out on Adopt a Day at Ballinger Sports Complex on Sunday, August 10 from 9.30am to 3.30pm where more than 100 dogs will be waiting for you to choose from to join your clan.
Sunshine Coast Council Division 6 Councillor Christian Dickson said he was pleased he was able to provide some funding support towards the big day and wished every success to the organisers, animal refuges and dogs involved.
“For those interested in getting a new dog, I cannot recommend attending this free event highly enough,” Cr Dickson said.
“There will be dogs of all shapes and sizes, ages and breeds looking for a ‘forever home’.
“They will be coming from a number of different animal refuges from the Sunshine Coast area and further afield.
“Entry is free and dog food donations are welcome. Plus, a year’s supply of dog food will be won on the day.
“A special thank you must go to the organisers, Ocean Forest Farm, for all the effort and consideration they have put into this day with, in their words, ‘the aim to give the true heroes of the event the absolute best shot physically possible at finding a permanent new home’.”
Cr McKay said Council understood dogs were an important part of people’s lives and contributed to enhanced wellbeing and providing companionship in many homes and families.
“While dogs are loving, well looked after members of many families, unfortunately large numbers of dogs are still regularly dumped or mistreated,” Cr McKay said.
“Each year hundreds of these dogs, including many unwanted litters of puppies, move from council’s pound to animal welfare shelters.
“So please consider providing one of these beautiful pooches a safe and loving home, but ensure that you select a dog that is suited to your home, family and lifestyle.
"With so many dogs available at Adopt a Day, you’re sure to find your perfect new best friend.”
