Advice for those looking to sell their car

It is becoming a common sight to see vehicles with a ‘for sale’  parked on streets, footpaths and in parkland across the Sunshine Coast Council region, creating safety issues, visual pollution and distraction for motorists, pedestrians and cyclists.

Services Delivery Portfolio Councillor Ted Hungerford said council was committed to providing a well-managed region that promotes and attracts visitors while ensuring a safe, healthy and attractive environment.

“Council manages vehicles for sale on council and state-controlled roads and as well as improving the look of our coastal strip, we work to improve the safety and efficiency of our roads and shared pathways,” Cr Hungerford said.

“This problem is especially bad on weekends along the Nicklin Way, Nambour Connection Road and other main roads across the region.

“Public spaces are not for strategically placed stationary vehicles with ‘for sale’ signs attached – adding clutter, slowing down traffic, taking up valuable parking spaces for long periods of time or creating safety hazards.

“It’s about the intent of the sign, so a sign starting ‘interested?’, accompanied by a phone number is considered to have the same intent as a ‘for sale’ sign, as per the local law.

“Owners of these vehicles found on roadways, pathways or parkland may receive an infringement."
