Maroochydore Multi Sport Complex will be a hive of activity with back-to-back sporting events on top of regular training and fixtures, over the next fortnight.

The Sunshine Coast Council-owned and managed complex is a bustling sports precinct with four ovals, 20 netball courts and three soccer fields.

The Queensland School Sport AFL State Championships kick off from May 30 to June 2 with boys and girls aged 10-12 from schools all over the state descending on the venue to compete.

The StreetSmarts AFLQ Schools Cup Gala Days take place on June 3, 7, 10 and 11 for secondary schools and June 12 for primary schools with the preliminary and grand finals to be held at the venue later in the year.

Amongst the AFL action, the Maroochydore Multi Sport complex will also be hosting three major netball events.

Netball carnival at Maroochydore Multi Sports Complex.

The first is Netball Queensland’s Primary Schools Gala on June 5, a one-day carnival for students in Years 4 to 6.

The second event is the Sunshine Coast Independent Primary Schools Gala on June 6.

The final netball event in a very busy 11-day period is the Sunshine Coast Netball Association’s Club Carnival on June 9.

The one-day carnival is open to school-age teams from any club, association or school and registrations are now full.

Sunshine Coast Division 7 Councillor Ted Hungerford welcomed so much sport being played at the Maroochydore Multi Sport Complex.

“Sport is a big part of the Sunshine Coast’s culture and it’s fantastic to see nearly 10,000 people actively using the venue across 11 days of competitions,” Cr Hungerford said.

“The region sees significant social and economic benefits from these events and what’s not to love about being active on the beautiful Sunshine Coast.”
