Having played at last year’s Shout Out Loud Festival, James and Jed from local band Adonis are taking time out to encourage other young people to get involved in this year’s festival.

Since forming in 2007 (under the original name Zaar), Adonis have worked hard to bring their unique sound to new listeners through a number of youth festivals and events including the annual Shout Out Loud Festival.

Boasting influences from such diverse genres as punk, metal, country and classical, the quintet continue to attract fans through their Myspace page, where listeners can sample new tracks from their demo which was recorded earlier this year.

“The most important thing for us is getting our music heard, by as many people as possible, and playing live gigs like Shout Out Loud is one of the best ways to do that,” James said.

This year’s festival is due to be staged at The J, Noosa Junction, on Saturday 4 July and will provide another opportunity to showcase local young people’s creativity through music, visual art and performance.

Event organiser Katie Edmiston, from the Sunshine Coast Council, said the success of the Shout Out Loud festival had grown to become a significant cultural development program for young people on the Coast. Last year’s event supported over 250 young people to perform, present and produce their own original creative work – including local bands like Adonis.

As well as musicians, she encouraged other young people to get involved.

“We want all types of creative young people from bands to dancers, visual artists to film makers and event workers – anything you do that’s creative we want to know about it.”

The council has issued a call for applications from young people, schools and community groups from across the Sunshine Coast to be part of Shout Out Loud 2009 – but applications close 22 May 2009, so get in fast!
