Sunshine Coast Council presents ‘An Architect’s Eye - The John Mainwaring Collection’at Noosa Regional Gallery from 22 March to 6 May 2012.

Council’s Cultural and Heritage Collections Manager John Waldron said the exhibition investigates the relationship between architect John Mainwaring’s art collection and his architectural vision and practice.

"Since the late 1980s award-winning architect John Mainwaring has amassed an extraordinary collection of mainly contemporary Aboriginal art by some of Australia’s significant Indigenous artists," he said.

"Throughout his career John Mainwaring has been inspired by this collection, in particular by the patterning, geometries, abstraction, layering, structures, shading and surface textures that are integral to these works.

"This collection is a must see for visitors and residents alike.

"We are inviting avid art enthusiasts to join exhibition curator, Dr Maura Reilly and John Mainwaring in a discussion about his collection over a coffee on 29 March at 11am. Bookings essential, please call the gallery on 5449 5340.

"The gallery will also be running free guided tours of the exhibition on Thursdays and Saturdays by our well versed volunteer team."

‘An Architect’s Eye – The John Mainwaring Collection’ will be officially launched at Noosa Regional Gallery on Saturday 31 March at 2pm.
