Have your say on Brightwater community facility

A 5000 square metre block of vacant land in Brightwater is waiting for a special idea so it can become the home to the Sunshine Coast’s next outstanding facility for the community.

And local residents can now put forward their suggestions on what type of facility they would like in their suburb.

As part of an agreement with Stockland and Sunshine Coast Council, land has been set aside, diagonally opposite the shopping complex, to accommodate a facility for use by the Brightwater community.

Division 6 Councillor Christian Dickson said council was keen to hear from locals on their aspirations and visions for the site on Brightwater Boulevard, on the north-eastern side of the intersection with Trevally Street.

“This really is a wonderful opportunity for everyone in Brightwater to have input into the future of where they live,” Cr Dickson said.

“The Brightwater Community Facilities Land comprises 5000 square metres, and was dedicated to council in 2010 after the creation of the 500th lot in the Brightwater Estate.

“This land dedication was in accordance with the terms of an Infrastructure Agreement executed in November 2004, which dictates that ‘council will use the land for Community Facility Purposes’.

“Community Facility Purposes was defined in the Infrastructure Agreement as ‘a public purpose such as a community hall or public meeting room’.

“Now we are asking locals to tell us what it is they would like on that land.

“They can go online, fill out the survey and let us know what they think would add value to their experience of living in Brightwater.”

The Brightwater Community Association (BCA), Brightwater Neighbourhood Watch (BNHW), and the Brightwater P&C have joined council to undertake the community engagement.
