Cricketers across the Sunshine Coast have welcomed a new indoor training facility at Caloundra Cricket Club which will be used by local clubs, Cricket Australia and Queensland Bulls for training and events.
Division 2 Councillor Tim Dwyer said the new building would benefit all Sunshine Coast cricket clubs.
“This facility meets the standard of Cricket Australia, so in addition to improving our local teams’ training sessions it will bring Queensland and national teams to the region,” Cr Dwyer said.
“This $550,000 Sunshine Coast Council project includes retractable nets, a mezzanine floor with an office and lockers and specialist lighting which allows for slow motion video to assist with training.
“Water tanks will collect water from the roof for field irrigation, making maintenance more sustainable.”
Council also recently completed upgrades to the cricket facilities at Landsborough Sports Complex and Elizabeth Daniels Sports Complex.
The upgrades were delivered through council’s $253 million Capital Works Program.
