CCTV zooms in on Mooloolaba for New Year’s Eve
The Sunshine Coast Council will help the police prevent crime in Mooloolaba, a key tourist destination on the Sunshine Coast, by introducing Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) in time for New Year’s Eve.

Councillor Chris Thompson said new CCTV cameras were currently being installed in strategic locations along Mooloolaba Esplanade and surrounds, providing live feed and 24 hour recording linked to a control room based at the Mooloolaba Police Beat.
“I’m really pleased that council is continuing its ongoing partnership with Queensland Police and the community in the development of safety and security initiatives for the Mooloolaba area,’’ Cr Thompson said.
Council has committed over $140,000 to the CCTV project and also received a $55,000 grant from the Department of Local Government, Sport and Recreation.
“It means that locals and visitors can enjoy everything Mooloolaba has to offer without fear of crime or worrying about their safety.”
Once operational, the CCTVs would provide a visual record of any anti-social behaviour that takes place in the area, he said.
“It’s especially important that we were able to have them installed in time for New Year’s Eve,” Cr Thompson said.
“The CCTV will complement the other safety initiatives in the area including the newly established CALM Mooloolaba Liquor Accord, secure cab rank, Street Angels Safety Services and lighting and streetscape improvements”.
