Celebrate Maleny Library's 20th birthday with morning tea and birthday cake at 10am tomorrow (June 6).
As part of the celebrations, library visitors will be able to view a display of photos from the last 20 years as well as share their memories.
Divisional Councillor Jenny McKay said she looked forward to attending the official celebrations and cutting the commemorative birthday cake.
“Maleny Library very much belongs to the people of this community and I’m looking forward to a great morning, sharing memories over a cuppa,” Cr McKay said.
“This library wouldn’t be the same without the great staff and the wonderful work of the Friends of Maleny Library.
“Our thanks go to the Friends for the work they do, and have been doing, since before this branch even opened.”
The original group of Friends petitioned to have Caloundra City Council purchase the old fruit barn which was then converted into the library we enjoy today.
It was opened on May 1, 1998 by Peg Burnett and Cr Des Dwyer.
“Of course there have been some changes to the building over time including the main service desk being moved so it’s now front and centre as you walk into the library,” Cr McKay said.
“The tiny staff workspace was renovated and more recently the children’s area and the foyer have been freshly painted and updated.
“Council is currently progressing work on designs for the library and we look forward to a much-needed extension in the coming years to ensure we continue to provide excellent customer service for the next 20 years and beyond.”
