Council is planning a streetscape upgrade and a new public park for the growing Bli Bli community, which will tie in together to improve the look of the Bli Bli Town Centre and create a new community space.

Division 9 Councillor Steve Robinson said he expected the concept designs would be well received by Bli Bli residents.

“The intention of this concept design is to provide locals the opportunity to walk or ride along new wider pathways through a new look Bli Bli Town Centre on David Low Way, into a new public park on the river to relax with family and friends and have a picnic,” Cr Robinson.

“The streetscape will include new pathways, modern bus shelters and street furniture and entry statements that people will see as they enter Bli Bli.”

Many of these elements are planned to be constructed this financial year.

“The design for the new public park, positioned on the Maroochy River opposite Muller Park and adjacent to the current Quirky Circle site, will make the most of the river location and the views along the river in both directions,” he said.

“This park space will include pathways, landscape gardens, seating, artworks and interpretive signage about the area’s history.

“Future aspirations for the space also include a canoe/boat pontoon and shared pedestrian cycle bridge linking to Muller Park.”

Council is coordinating with the two development sites in the Bli Bli Town Centre to ensure the design for this project integrates with both sites to create a cohesive look for the street.

Flood levels are also being taken into account in the design to ensure suitable park infrastructure is installed in appropriate locations.

The streetscape revitalisation and new public park plans are subject to State Government approval and future funding opportunities.

Council is aiming to finalise the design by December 2018. Construction is estimated to start in 2019.

The concept design is available to view on the project webpage.
