Concrete solution to carpark problem

The revamped public facilities that neighbour Tewantin Marina are set for a further boost.

Sunshine Coast Council will remove a number of disintegrating plastic cellular turf pavers in the public carpark and replace them with new concrete pavers.

Division 12 Councillor Tony Wellington said the existing pavers posed a potential environmental risk to the nearby Noosa River.

“The existing black plastic cellular turf pavers were laid in 2011 with the intention of creating a green space in the large bitumen car park,” he said.

“Unfortunately the turf hasn’t taken and the black plastic cells are now breaking up which is a concern due to the close proximity of the Noosa River.

“To avoid any possible contamination problems, council will remove these degrading plastic pavers and replace them with concrete pavers.

“Council has improved this area significantly in recent years via construction of the popular children’s spray park, the skate bowl, toilet block and the new fish cleaning table beside the boat ramp.”

Paving works will start on Monday, 15 April and are expected to be complete by May 15, weather permitting. Fencing and signage will be in place around the site while works are in progress.
