Council agrees to change North Shore development conditions

Sunshine Coast Council is working with the receivers of the Noosa North Shore Eco Tourism to make the project more attractive to an incoming developer, by agreeing to change some of the original development approval conditions.

Council reached the agreement to change some of the development approval conditions at today’s Ordinary Meeting.

The site, which is planned to provide holiday accommodation for about 400 people, is being built in four states, with stages one and two already complete.

Division 12 Councillor Lew Brennan said the changes allow the 71.17 hectare site to be developed in line with the future intent of the Noosa North Shore.

"This site has a long and interesting history—receivers were appointed after the site’s original owners Petrac Leisure went into liquidation in October 2008," Cr Brennan said.

"To make the development more appealing to potential buyers, the receivers lodged a request to change a number of conditions in the existing development approval."

Cr Brennan said that council granted all but one of the change requests because they were never deemed necessary by the former Noosa council.

"A four-year extension to the approval period was given to allow extra time for the site to be developed," Cr Brennan said.

"The 12 week limit on visitors staying in the resort has been removed, although the site will remain as short-term visitor accommodation.

"The requirement for the future developer to provide lifeguard and beach facilities, has been deleted from the conditions."

"Council also agreed to remove the requirement for an additional public jetty because there is very little demand for it, and it could have caused potential environmental harm to the Noosa River."

"This is a positive step as the approved development can hopefully now progress to completion, providing valuable jobs and activity on the North Shore.

"I think it's a good outcome as this current proposal seems to be more in line with the intent of the Noosa Plan when compared to the Petrac North Shore 'Eco-Tourism Portal."

The site located about 2.5 km north of the Noosa River at the intersection of Maximillian Road and Beach Road and is situated directly south of the Noosa North Shore Retreat (Lake Cooroibah Holiday Park).
