Another productive Mooloolah Breakfast Meeting at Kenny’s Café was held last week with key topics including the requests for CCTV cameras because of undue vehicle behaviour and for more lighting at the Mooloolah Railway Station.

These monthly community meetings provide local residents an opportunity to hear about upcoming projects, make proposals and raise any concerns.  The meeting is on the first Thursday of each month at Kenny’s Café 7 at 7 for a 7.30am start.

Grants support

A heads up council is considering a $6,000 grant for the replacement of the side exit steps and landing at Mooloolah Public Hall Association Inc. at tomorrow’s Ordinary Meeting.

Through the provision of community grants, council is committed to supporting the implementation of community initiatives and partnerships that align with our strategic corporate priorities and demonstrate a purpose that is in the interests of the community.

I will be calling a meeting for interested people and youth to finalise the direction for the Kids Skates Facility, off-leash dog park, Men’s Shed, walking path and exercise equipment opportunities.

The State Government have now clearly stated, that there is no land available on QRail or TMR controlled land.  Date to be advised and advertised through the Mooloolah Community Centre and Darryl at the Mooloolah Hardware Store.

Public lighting

In a first for local government in Australia, Sunshine Coast Council’s Urban Lighting Master Plan (ULMP) has been endorsed which will see LED lighting deployed across our entire region.

I’m also delighted to advise council is investigating having a ‘Dark Sky Park’ here on the Sunshine Coast.

Dark Sky Parks share the same principles as our public lighting master plan and they are part of a quickly growing astro tourism trend internationally.

We have identified Howells Knob Lookout as a wonderful possibility to be a dark sky park – the combination of high altitude and minimal light pollution means that presently the lookout is arguably the best dark sky observing location in South East Queensland.

Other opportunities for a larger dark sky park venue that could facilitate greater capacity than Howell’s Knob are still being investigated.

Garage Sale Trail

Transport options

I would like to remind residents about the Transport Levy funded Flexilink and Council Link services and encourage you to get on board and take advantage.

Last financial year 2015-16 4,301 passengers traveled 44,680km on Flexilink Services, while 12,322 passengers journeyed 82,365km via Council Link Services.

Both services provides cheap, safe, reliable and accessible public transport to people with fewer transport options, seniors or people with a disability.
