This project continues to challenge the Queensland Police Service and council. Council officers are currently undertaking analysis of speed data collected on Tunnel Ridge Road. Council now has a tool that analyses speed data and detects trends of speed, identifying times of day and days of the week when speeding is prevalent. This data will then be shared with QPS for their enhanced enforcement activities. As a reminder, please drive safe and to the conditions of the road. I also ask that everyone please show respect to the local residents of Tunnel Ridge Road.

Meet the Makers – celebrating our coast’s amazing food and produce

I was fortunate to join several members of the Food and Agricultural Network (FAN) in support of the Meet the Makers 2019 event, a celebration of the Greater Sunshine Coast’s amazing food and produce. Our Division 5 is home to many regional food businesses, and this is a wonderful initiative for the food industry and our wider community. Along with council, I’m incredibly proud of FAN, the fastest growing food industry not-for-profit network in Australia, and I thoroughly enjoy supporting our Sunshine Coast businesses as they showcase their delicious products to buyers.

Clean Up Australia Day’s volunteer record

On Sunday March 3 locals came out in record numbers to participate in Clean Up Australia Day. Our coast had an estimated 1630 registered volunteers, a 10% increase from last year’s numbers. The equivalent of 1143 bags, or 15.9 tonnes of general rubbish was collected and 60 bags, or nearly 1 tonne of recyclables were collected. I’d like to share my enthusiastic gratitude for all those who came out and joined this national clean-up effort, and particularly thank our wonderful community groups for organising the localised clean-ups.

Approval for service station at Maroochy Sand & Gravel location

Council recently approved the development of a service station on the block currently known as Maroochy Sand & Gravel on Nambour Connection Road in Woombye. As a part of the conditions, the applicant is required to provide protective fencing on the Suncoast Christian College side. The condition for a walking path has been deleted. Whilst Council always seeks to encourage developers to deliver strategic pathway networks, because of high traffic, this is not a suitable location for a pedestrian walkway.

Abbotts Road roundabout update

While works were scheduled to be complete in January on this roundabout, the latest update is that we’re now looking at late April. I’ve been working closely with Marty Hunt MP to ensure progress is made and our residents have a safe and complete road.

Request for meeting at Booloumba Creek

I’ve been asked by residents of the Booloumba Creek area to address a number of issues concerning environmental impacts on Conondale National Park after a television program was aired on The Great Weekender. I extended an invitation to the office of the Minister for the Environment for an onsite meeting in mid-March with residents, other council and state government representatives, and the police service. At this meeting, we will address the challenges of the park’s growing popularity.

Upgraded bridge at Beausangs Lane, Conondale

Many thanks to all those involved in the bridge works on Beausangs Lane in Conondale. This is a great outcome and help secures milk supply to our communities. Thanks as well to the community for your understanding during the upgrade.
