Engaging our community
It was terrific to see so many local residents prepared to provide feedback at council’s Exploring Excellence in Engagement pop up photo booth in Coolum last week. It was an opportunity for people to tell council what an engaged community means to them. This program is the first step in a community visioning process to develop a concept for a centre of excellence in community engagement. I'm very confident this feedback will assist council in providing better community engagement processes for any future projects.
A celebration of healthy ageing
It was wonderful to be invited to the Healthy Ageing Partnership High Tea at the Coolum Beach Retirement Community recently as part of Seniors Week. This event brought together a range of active elders who live in our community, celebrating with a range of entertainment such as ukulele players and belly dancers. Congratulations to the organisers for a wonderful celebration and recognition of the outstanding role that our older residents play in our community. People from all walks of life, and often those in need, benefit from the volunteer time our senior citizens provide, so I thank them for their dedication.
The Cleantech Effect
Council recently hosted two leading industry experts for a one-of-its-kind cleantech conference, The Cleantech Effect. It was great to hear from Grand Designs Australia host Peter Maddison and futurist Dr Keith Suter, who both agreed that cleantech will have a big role to play in shaping our future. Cleantech, short for clean technology, is all about finding a better way for the community to enjoy a clean and sustainable future.
Meet and greet
I’ll be at the Coolum Library on September 13 at 1-3pm for my next ‘meet and greet’ session. Apologies for any inconvenience last month when I was unwell and unable to attend.
