Work has started on a streetscaping project at the beach end of Mooloolaba’s Brisbane Road that will not only extend the “look and feel” of the esplanade but also improve pedestrian access in this very popular area. A major part of the upgrade is relocating the Energex power lines underground, which is always a big improvement. There will also be stone-faced seating walls, a new pedestrian crossing across Brisbane Road, street trees and gardens, and improved street lighting. I’m sure the upgrade will be appreciated by all of our residents and visitors.

The Draft Mooloolaba Plan is now available for public comment and we’d love to hear your views as we try to meet the needs of locals, traders and visitors to the Coast’s premier beach destination. Steady growth key to sustainability
There was plenty of positive news in Council’s half-year Development Indicators highlights report which showed continued growth for most development types across the region, with $554 million in building approvals recorded during the first six months of 2015. These regular reports show us that over the longer term, we are experiencing steady and sustainable growth in development, which has positive flow-on effects across the region including increased economic activity, employment generation, business confidence and consumer spending. How safe is your pool or spa?
It’s now time for the 34,000 plus swimming pool owners across the Sunshine Coast to check their pool or spa meets the new pool safety laws. From November 30, 2015, all swimming pools in Queensland must be registered with the Queensland Building and Construction Commission (QBCC). Once registered, pool owners should check the pool safety guidelines on the QBCC website or follow the links from Council’s website to be sure their pool or spa barriers comply.
