Curtain rises on $2m revamp to Events Centre

One of the Sunshine Coast’s foremost arts and entertainment venues – The Events Centre, Caloundra – is now an even greater experience for audiences, thanks to a $2m revamp.

Sunshine Coast Council’s Division 2 Councillor Tim Dwyer will next Friday (25 June) receive the keys to the new-look centre in a ceremonial handover from Millennium Constructions, the local contractor who won the tender to undertake the construction component of the project for council.

“This $2m project has been planned for some time and it is excellent news for the region that it is now complete,” Cr Dwyer said.

The main improvements are a new roof and total upgrade to the courtyard area. The project included acoustic treatments to the room, the addition of air-conditioning, a new control system for mood lighting, new floor surfaces, blinds to all windows, increased floor area and reduced columns.

“This council is committed to supporting industry and employment on the Sunshine Coast, so it was great to see the contract awarded to a local builder from Bli Bli – Millennium Constructions,” Cr Dwyer said.

“They have done a very good job on a challenging project that will now deliver great benefits to our community.”

Cr Dwyer commended the Event Centre management and staff for their “outstanding efforts and cooperation” while works were done.

“Through the challenges of construction work and some significant wet weather, the Event Centre team did a great job of sticking to that old showbiz adage that ‘the show must go on’.

“The end result is a very good one for the centre and for all those who come along to see the great shows that are hosted in this venue.”
