Discover the beautiful traditional craft of making hooked and prodded rugs with Judi Tompkins from Sunshine Coast Rug Crafters when she visits Council's Beerwah Library on Tuesday, June 16.
This traditional craft is slowly being revived and is quietly practised by a small number of women and a few men, who continue to teach the basic skills to others. Judi will provide a ‘hands on’ interactive demonstration and outline the history of this unique craft which came to Australia with the many women who were transported to this country.
Sunshine Coast Rug Crafters meets regularly at Beerwah Library. The demonstration will celebrate their contribution to the fundraising efforts of the Friends of the Library and will be followed by a raffle draw for their donated prizes – three beautiful rug hooking pieces with an ocean theme.
You can enter the draw to win a beautiful rug until June 16.
Bookings are essential via Council’s library website. The event starts at 2.30pm and includes a free afternoon tea.
