Flexilink Taxi Trial extended
Following a successful two month trial, council is extending its Flexilink Taxi Trial into the next financial year, bridging the gap in public transport links across the Coast.
Following a successful two month trial, council is extending its Flexilink Taxi Trial into the next financial year, bridging the gap in public transport links across the Coast.
The seven Flexilink trial services include the following routes:
- Peachester to Beerwah
- Conondale via Witta to Maleny
- Glenview to Mooloolah Valley
- Kenilworth to Mapleton
- Buderim to Mountain Creek
- Kunda Park to Mons
- Cooroy to Pomona.
A similar service already operates from Boreen Point to Tewantin and will also be extended into the 2010/11 financial year.
Integrated Transport Portfolio holder Councillor Vivien Griffin said that although the service has been extended these services are still operating on a trial basis and high levels of use are still required to keep the service going.
“I think the term use it or lose it is the best message we can get out there,” Cr Griffin said.
“The service provides a solution to gaps in the current public transport system; but to keep the trial going and hopefully make it a permanent service we need to maintain passenger numbers.”
Residents wishing to use the Flexilink service must book their trip by calling 1300 511 163.
The services operate on a pre-booked basis and run three return trips per day, Monday to Saturday.
Vehicles travel along designated routes and commuters are required to meet the taxis along the route. A single trip is $2 for adults and $1 for children/concession.
Council continues to welcome feedback from service users and is currently reviewing feedback gathered so far and will use this to shape the future operations of the Flexilink trial services.
This initiative is funded by council’s Public Transport Levy, which was introduced to improve local public transport services, infrastructure and patronage across the Coast. Council has also received support from the Queensland Government, Suncoast Cabs and Range Taxi Service.
