Free buses for four more days

Many residents and visitors to the Sunshine Coast have enjoyed using free buses over the holiday season.

Sunshine Coast Council’s Integrated Transport Services Manager Stuart Arden is encouraging locals and visitors to make the most of the free service which will operate until 9 January.

"If you haven’t experienced the value of this free service yet, you’ve still got four more days to give it a try," he said.

"The Free Holiday Bus Program provides visitors and residents with hassle-free travel over the holiday break. Our free holiday transport service means you can hop on the bus and not worry about parking problems or getting delayed in traffic," he said.

All services including TransLink Sunbus Services, Hinterland Connect, Maleny-Landsborough-Beerwah, Council Cabs and Flexilink are free for everyone, everywhere on the Coast. There is no need to book or present special vouchers, just use the service as normal and save your money.

Helping the community understand how to make the most of the Free Holiday Bus Program is a team of public transport ambassadors – the Go2 Crew – providing information, advice and guidance to commuters.

Commuters can spot the Go2 Crew – easily identifiable in their blue Hawaiian shorts and white polos – who will be out and about between 11am and 3pm every day at various locations around the Coast.

During the wet weather, the Go2 Crew have concentrated their activities in shopping centres and have enjoyed positive feedback from an appreciative community.

"It’s been a great initiative and loads of fun. People have been really friendly, appreciative of the free buses and pleased to have a friendly face to guide them in the right direction.

"We’ve been asked so many different questions – from the obvious ‘how to get to‘ destination ones, to opinions on where to eat, shop and sightsee – all by environmentally friendly public transport of course", said Alex Cuthill from the Go2 Crew.

Free Holiday Bus timetables and booking information for Flexilink and Council Cab services is available on council's web site and timetables can be picked up from all Sunshine Coast Council offices, libraries and visitor information centres.
