Free legal advice on family law and wills

Caloundra Library is offering free seminars for the public on two hot legal issues – family law and wills and estates.

The two seminars form part of a Legal Education Seminar Series, kicking off on Monday 30 March with a highly topical Wills, Estates and Enduring Powers of Attorney.

This seminar answers common questions such as: “What happens if I die without a will?” and “Can my will be challenged after my death?”

Presented by local lawyer Scott Taylor, the seminar is for those revising their will to take changed circumstances into account, assisting older family members to put their affairs in order or juggling estate administration.

The second seminar, Parenting and Child Maintenance, is ideal for newly separated couples looking to negotiate a parenting plan or those reconsidering outdated consent orders. It covers the controversial topics of parental decision-making, where and with whom children spend time, and who pays for it all.

This seminar, by local lawyer Maurice Tucker, takes a look at aspects of the law relating to a presumption of equal, shared parental responsibility, compulsory mediation before court proceedings and obligatory consideration of equal – or at least substantial and significant – time spent with each parent.

Presented by Suncoast Community Legal Service and Caloundra Library, this session will be the first step to a better understanding of parents’ rights and responsibilities.
