Friends of Beerwah Library Knitting Circle donated gifts provide comfort

Those in need will find comfort thanks to the Friends of Beerwah Library Knitting Circle’s generous donation of colourful knitted rugs and teddy bears to Sunshine Linus Inc. this month.

Friends of Beerwah Library Knitting Circle member Barbara Stacey said the group was delighted to respond to community requests and decided to run weekly knitting circles and donate the proceeds to a local charity.

“In June, we donated colourful rugs to a local charity and this time our hand-made rugs and teddies have been presented to Sunshine Linus Inc.,” she said.

“The library is great. We exchange ideas and also get to be a part of the Beerwah community while we are knitting in the library.

“It has also been wonderful to extend our connections with other groups like Linus who do lots of different craft pieces and donate them all across the Sunshine Coast.

“Circle members were really captivated by the information provided by Kaye from Linus as she showed as sample items made by Linus volunteers.

“We now have new knitting and crochet patterns to make which will help expand what we provide for individuals in need.

“If members of the public want to help us with our new knitting ventures by sponsoring a teddy or ugly socks with two balls of eight ply acrylic yarn, they can deliver them to the Beerwah Library Knitters Circle.”

Kaye Nightingale, president of Sunshine Linus Inc., said the beautiful knitted rugs would provide comfort for those in need.

“We are a 100% volunteer not-for-profit organisation and our mission is to provide love, a sense of security, warmth and comfort to children and adults who are seriously ill, traumatised or otherwise in need, through the gift of new homemade comforts such as these rugs,” she said.

“On behalf of the community members, I would like to thank the Friends of Beerwah Library Knitting Circle for their kind donation.”

The Friends of Beerwah Library Knitting Circle group welcomes new members and meets every Wednesday from 1.30pm-3pm. Wool donations are welcome.
