Interested in sustainable house design principles and keen to see how they have been implemented in a real setting?
Then book into one of Sunshine Coast Council’s organised design talks and tours at sustainable homes in Conondale or Crystal Waters this Sunday, September 13, on Sustainable House Day.
Sunshine Coast Council Manager of Environment and Sustainable Policy Bill Haddrill encourages people to get inspired about a sustainable lifestyle.
“This Sunday, more than 200 sustainable homes are on display across the nation, with some interesting examples open for inspection locally across the Sunshine Coast and in Brisbane,” Mr Haddrill said.
“These homes have been designed, built or renovated with sustainability in mind, giving visitors an opportunity to speak to the owners, inspect the houses and receive unbiased advice.
“You can see first hand how to implement sustainable design principles, choose ecological building materials, incorporate renewable energy and water efficiency systems into any renovation or new building projects.”
To coincide with Sustainable House Day, the Australian Government has released a website— www.yourhome.gov.au - that covers tips and concepts for designing a sustainable house.
Council’s Principal Architect Tony Holzberger recommended looking at the website which also provides lots of valuable information.
“The ‘Your Home’ website is a great resource for home renovators—with standard home designs and specifications that can be downloaded and viewed with your builder,” Mr Holzberger said.
“It you are building on the Sunshine Coast, download the Brisbane specification as this deals with our climatic conditions.”
