The JobShow will have more than 500 jobs available from businesses and employment providers ready to make connections with Sunshine Coast job seekers when it opens its doors tomorrow (October 16).
Presented by Sunshine Coast Council in partnership with Stones Throw Group, the annual JobShow provides a one-stop shop for jobs, training and business support at the TAFE Queensland Mooloolaba campus, 34 Lady Musgrave Drive, Mountain Creek.
Deputy Mayor Cr Tim Dwyer said the JobShow was a real-world platform to showcase the opportunities available to our residents.
“The JobShow is a must – whether you’re looking for employment, thinking about a career change, considering further education or taking up an apprenticeship,” Cr Dwyer said.
“With more than 50 exhibitors and over 500 jobs on offer, it’s the perfect opportunity for people of all ages to find a new job or make connections with businesses for future employment.
“The other positive of this event is the human resources support, from resume writing support, to advice on how to secure their next role.
“It’s all beneficial and helps provide long-term employment prospects.
“The JobShow is an investment in the development of local talent and skills and supports the Sunshine Coast Regional Economic Development Strategy (REDS) goal to triple the size of our economy to $33 billion and increase the number of jobs in our seven high-value Industries to 100,000 by 2033.”
Managing director of Stones Throw Group Kris McCue said global insurance giant Youi would be offering more than 100 positions at The JobShow and Glass House Brewery was seeking 25 staff ahead of their November opening.
“It’s pleasing to see so many opportunities are available from major corporate groups through to our smaller local businesses,” said Mr McCue.
“There are jobs in hospitality, retail, defence, community services, aged care and disability, construction, apprenticeships and traineeships. There really is something for everyone.”
For Sunshine Coast local, Louis Cadman, the JobShow turned out to be a life-changing experience after he secured a four-year plastering apprenticeship through East Coast Apprenticeships.
“I’d been through a few jobs while I was at school like working at a pizza store, a shoe store, Bunnings and Kmart but that was all casual work and I needed something a bit more permanent because I wanted to put my head down and really do something with my life,” Louis said.
“I went to the JobShow with it in the back of my mind and I definitely thought an apprenticeship was going to be ‘me’.
“I had some knowledge about plastering so I decided to go for it and I’m so glad I did! The JobShow gave me a connection to a positive future.”
