Kawana Sports Precinct to turn pink for triathlon

Kawana Sports Precinct will be covered in pink for the Ramsay Health Care Triathlon Pink this Sunday. You can register for the triathlon or fun runs on site from 5.30am.

Tourism, Sport and Major Events portfolio councillor Jason OPray said the triathlon was the latest in a series of sporting championships and fun runs to be held at Sunshine Coast Stadium and Kawana Sports Precinct.

“This is the fifth year the stadium has hosted Ramsay Health Care Triathlon Pink, a nation-wide triathlon series that provides a fantastic, fun day of personal achievement,” Cr OPray said.

“The council-sponsored event has something for the whole family – the all-female tri is held alongside Brooks Fun Run Pink, for males and females of all ages, the ULTRA distance for more experienced triathletes, several shorter distances for beginners and three categories of Pink Kids.

“Hosting major events like this triathlon contributes to council’s goal of a sustainable economy and sustainable community, by attracting participants to the region and encouraging an active lifestyle.”

Division 3 councillor Peter Cox said Sunshine Coast Stadium and Kawana Sports Precinct were cementing themselves as the focal point for active events in the region.

“Kawana Sports Precinct provides a great course for people getting active and hosts many significant events, which help create a healthy and vibrant community,” Cr Cox said.

“The venue is ideal venue for triathlons and fun runs – this triathlon starts in Kawana Aquatic Centre for the swim leg, transitions onto the bike leg from the sports fields onto Sportsmans Parade and finishes with a picturesque run along Lake Kawana foreshore.”

The Ramsay Health Care Triathlon Pink series has raised over $1.4 million for the National Breast Cancer Foundation, The McGrath Foundation, Breast Cancer Network Australia and Mater chicks in pink for breast cancer support, education, research and advocacy.
