Langs Building Supplies officially opens on the Sunshine Coast

Following its announcement in May of 100 new jobs for the Sunshine Coast, Langs Building Supplies has officially celebrated the opening of its new $20 million Caloundra warehouse and trade store during a ceremony with Mayor Mark Jamieson today (September 25).

The official opening was the culmination of 10 years of planning for the family-owned business which will provide the Sunshine Coast community with a drive-through trade store, bulk building supplies and on-site manufacturing of roof trusses, wall frames and floor trusses.

Mayor Jamieson, who joined Langs owner Bob Lang and general manager David Wuiske in Caloundra for the official opening, said the attraction of a company like Langs and the level of their investment in our region was a significant boost for the local economy.

“It will support the local building and construction industry as well as providing great employment opportunities for locals,” Mayor Jamieson said.

Langs’ investment is estimated to have contributed $54 million to the regional economy during construction alone and once fully operational, it is estimated it will contribute $193 million to the regional economy annually.

“Today is a significant day for the Langs team and one that will also support the continued growth of our region’s trades and building sector, with building approvals on the Sunshine Coast hitting their highest level in eight years, 32% higher compared to approvals issued last year,” Mayor Jamieson said.

“This is associated with our region’s game-changing projects such as the new Maroochydore CBD, Caloundra South (Aura) and Palmview (Harmony) just to name a few, so it’s a great time for Langs to be expanding to our region and I’m very pleased to be here today to celebrate their achievement.

“It’s the investment shown by companies such as Langs, along with the growth of existing businesses in our region, that helps to support positive business confidence, provide employment opportunities for local residents and drive our regional economic growth.

“It’s also a great opportunity for locals with Langs planning to double their existing staff numbers in the next 12 to 18 months, followed by an additional 50 jobs to come online when the company starts on-site aluminium window frame manufacturing.

“This means real jobs for locals – a great outcome for both Langs and our community.”

Mr Wuiske said the official opening of the new facilities was a significant milestone for the company and represented the next chapter for the growing business.

“The plan to expand to the Sunshine Coast is one that has been underway for more than a decade, with owner Bob Lang purchasing the Caloundra site approximately 10 years ago,” Mr Wuiske said.

“This step is not only an expansion to a new location and servicing a new market, it also sees us expand our product offering with the addition of the drive-through trade store, as well as having a larger factory space and additional manufacturing machinery to increase our production.

“The facility you see today also includes space for additional expansion over the coming months, with plans to commence on-site manufacturing of aluminium window frames.

“This will see our total staff numbers reach up to 250 by the time we’re fully up and running in about 18 months – it’s an exciting time for our business and our new employees.”

Along with today’s official opening ceremony, Langs will hold a Grand Opening Day which will be open to the public on Saturday, October 7 from 8am to noon with activities such as a kids activities, a BBQ, giveaways and product demonstrations.

Langs Caloundra is now open to the public and trade customers and is located at 85 Claude Boyd Parade, Bells Creek.

Langs Caloundra will supply building materials to the fast growing housing markets across the region, as well as supply and transport products outside the region.

The family-owned business has been in operation for 40 years and has until now been based at Yatala where they already employ approximately 250 staff.
