Large seas and dangerous surf conditions expected this weekend

Another busy long weekend is on the cards across Sunshine Coast beaches but along with the swimmers, rough, large surf conditions are also expected to pay a visit.

Sunshine Coast Council’s Lifeguard Services Manager, Scott Braby warns inexperienced swimmers and surfers to take care as two-to-three-metre waves are expected to hit the Coast this weekend.

"Council lifeguards and volunteer lifesavers may be required to close the more exposed beaches as a result of the rough conditions and strong wave surges," he said.

"The important message is for everybody intending to hit the surf to be aware of your limitations, heed the warnings from lifeguards and lifesavers and swimmers to only swim between the red and yellow flags.

"Whilst the conditions may be rough, experienced surfers are looking forward to some quality point waves and clean beach breaks on Sunday and Monday."

The expected busy weekend is the last for lifesavers who will be taking a well-earned rest as the surf season comes to a close. Council lifeguards will fill the void patrolling seven days per week at major locations across the Sunshine Coast including Noosa, Sunshine, Peregian, Coolum, Hyatt Coolum, Mudjimba, Twin Waters, Maroochydore, Alexandra Headlands, Mooloolaba, Mooloolaba Spit, Dicky and Kings Beaches.
