Imagine having your own space to be creative – to write or draw, imagine and reflect while enjoying fresh breezes and water views – well, there is such a place, on an island, on the Sunshine Coast, and artists from across the country can now apply for this piece of paradise.

As a part of Sunshine Coast Council’s Creative Spaces program, applications are now open for the 2020 Crow’s Nest Artist in Residency program.

Situated on beautiful Chambers Island in Maroochydore, the Crow’s Nest is a small, private studio space above the Maroochy Sailing Club, with views out across the Maroochy River towards the ocean.

Arts Portfolio Councillor Rick Baberowski said the Crow’s Nest creative studio space would suit writers, digital and 2d artists and creatives with fairly simple requirements.

“Since launching the Maroochydore Crow’s Nest in 2019 we’ve welcomed an excellent range of artists including Paper Amy and Sunshine Coast ‘kid-lit’ authors Ali Stegert and Kellie Byrnes,” Cr Baberowski said.

“Our current resident multi-disciplinary artists are Courtney Scheu, a choreographer and Itamar Freed, a visual artist, from the Sunshine Coast and New York who are developing their work Plastic Belly towards a full length, site-specific presentation that will feature at the Supercell Festival of Contemporary Dance 2020.

“We have a limited number of opportunities available throughout 2020, so I would encourage anyone who is interested to jump online, check out the space and apply.”

Creative Spaces Sunshine Coast is a place where artists can find affordable space to practice, exhibit, perform and collaborate, and where hosts can list space for free.

Creative Spaces is a key outcome of council’s Sunshine Coast Arts Plan 2018-2038.
