Maritime Safety Queensland (MSQ) will today approve the reopening of another Sunshine Coast beach, which had been temporarily closed due to the effects of the oil spill.

Discovery Beach will be reopened from 8am today, meaning there are now 16 council lifeguard patrolled Sunshine Coast beaches open.

It is anticipated that Sunshine Coast Council efforts in assisting the clean-up being coordinated by Maritime Safety Queensland will see all remaining beaches opened over the next few days.

Maritime Safety Queensland (MSQ) is the lead agency responsible for coordinating the oil spill clean-up. People seeking any further information should contact MSQ on 1800 216 723.

Until further notice from the state government, people are advised to keep away from the beaches signposted as closed.

For the latest Sunshine Coast beaches status report, see council’s website – www.sunshinecoast.qld.gv.au
