Rates notices are on their way and due for payment by Friday, August 23.

There’s a simple way Sunshine Coast ratepayers can put themselves in the running to save up to $1000 off their bill.

Sunshine Coast Council Outstanding Organisation Portfolio Councillor Ted Hungerford said ratepayers could give themselves a chance to win in just two easy steps.

“Signing up to receive future rates notices by email and paying your rates online will put you in the running to win up to $1000 off your next rates bill,” Cr Hungerford said.

“If you already receive their rates notices by email, you’ll automatically be in the draw to win if you pay your bill online.”

The last lucky winner from Nambour didn’t even realise she was entered into the draw. She had already switched to email for convenience.

“Receiving my rates via email was a no brainer for me,” she said.

“I can access my bill at any time no matter where I am and it is no longer lost under piles of paper! I love the reminder emails so I don’t miss a payment.

“Now I have a MyCouncil account I have access to various convenient and secure online ways to pay.

“There are other services like being able to pay my pet registration and view my property details which are also super handy.”

How to enter

Ratepayers who currently get their rates notice by post:

  1. Register for a MyCouncil account or log-in to an existing account. There is a step-by-step guide to setting up your MyCouncil account on Council’s website.
  2. Change the rates notice delivery method to email, before 5pm on Wednesday, August 21. Click on ‘Update your rates notice delivery’ under the Property and Rates section on your MyCouncil dashboard and change to email.

Ratepayers who already receive their rate notice by email will automatically be in the draw.

Your rates, your way

There is a range of convenient online payment options available to pay your rates, including BPAY. Check your rates notice to see all the ways you can pay.

To assist with online or over-the-phone payments, property owners will need their payment reference number, found on their rates notice.

Council also has a direct debit option, which can be set up to pay rates in full by the due date, to make life easier for busy ratepayers. Ratepayers who cannot make payment by the due date (Friday August 23) are encouraged to enter into a payment arrangement by logging into MyCouncil or by contacting Council before the due date.

You can also set up a payment arrangement on line, via Council’s website. Payment arrangements need to be set up each time a rates notice is issued.

For rates enquiries, email Council at [email protected] or Contact Council between 8.15am and 5pm, Monday to Friday.

Residents are urged to be aware of bogus emails requesting payment of rates. Please note that Council never asks for rates to be paid to a BSB and account number. Please pay your rates using the methods printed on your rates notice. Please contact Council directly if you have any questions.

If anyone receives an email and recognises it as a scam, the matter can be reported online to www.scamwatch.gov.au

Anyone who has received an email of this nature and paid money to the emailer is encouraged to contact Policelink on 131 444 so the matter can be investigated.
