Mooloolaba anchor brings tourists and trade
Mooloolaba is set to welcome a series of cruise ships through February and March 2025, bringing a significant boost to local businesses and tourism.

Their arrival is expected to create a vibrant atmosphere and provide a substantial economic uplift to the region.
Viking Sky will kick off the season on Sunday, February 8, with 930 passengers on board. This marks the beginning of a busy period for Mooloolaba, as the town prepares to host a variety of cruise ships.
Following closely, the MS Azamara Pursuit will dock on Saturday, February 22, carrying 777 passengers. The next day, Sunday, February 23, will see the arrival of the Viking Venus, also with 930 passengers.
The cruise ship Amadea is scheduled to arrive on Friday, February 28, bringing 600 passengers to the shores of Mooloolaba. Finally, the Seven Seas Mariner will conclude this wave of arrivals on Sunday, March 30, with 769 passengers.
The influx of visitors is expected to provide a much-needed economic boost for local businesses during February, normally a quiet period.
Sunshine Coast Council Economy Portfolio and Divisional Councillor Joe Natoli said this cruise ship season would be of real value for our tourism sector, and our retail, hospitality and other local enterprises.
“Cruise ship arrivals are an important part of the Sunshine Coast’s tourism mix as they provide a welcome economic boost for our region,” Cr Natoli said.
“Tourism and Events Queensland research shows cruise ship guests to the Sunshine Coast spend an average of $450 each per day while on shore.
“This is a great opportunity to showcase the best of what our region has to offer, ensuring a memorable experience for all cruise passengers.
“Passengers who have a great time here during a stopover tell their friends and family and frequently return to the Sunshine Coast, so it provides long-term benefits.”
Cruise ship passengers welcomed
Visit Sunshine Coast staff, Visitor Information Centre volunteers and tourism operators will be at The Wharf, Mooloolaba, from 8am to greet passengers as they disembark.
Visit Sunshine Coast CEO Matt Stoeckel said their volunteer ambassadors help passengers make the most of their shore excursions as they explored the Sunshine Coast on their stop over.
“The cruise ships provide an impressive contribution to the Sunshine Coast economy,” Mr Stoeckel said.
“These visits are worth around $1million a year.
“The economic boost to Mooloolaba, and the Sunshine Coast, is extremely valuable to businesses, especially during these quieter trading periods.”
