The viewing platform at Mudjimba Beach has doubled in size, with council completing the expansion this week.

Division 8 Councillor Jason OPray, who allocated divisional funding to the upgrade, said the deck was a popular beach entrance.

“The deck is the main entrance to our beautiful Mudjimba Beach and a very popular spot to enjoy the view of Old Woman Island or check out the surf,” Cr OPray said.

“The expansion includes new bar-style seating and a lot of extra standing room for people to gather.

“The platform is often very crowded with locals in the afternoons and on weekends, which was making it difficult for people heading down to the beach – now there’s plenty of space.

“We’ve also replaced the light at the deck with a turtle-friendly light to help protect the nesting turtles.

“It’s great to have this finished at the start of the summer holidays.”
