Mudjimba boat ramp ready for catch of the day

Boaties keen to get out on the water can now enjoy better access to Maroochy River via Mudjimba much sooner than expected after council completed a new $1.4 million two-lane boat ramp seven weeks ahead of schedule.

Mayor Mark Jamieson said the need for a new boat ramp was determined in 2011 following a study of recreation facilities in the area.

“Upgrading our recreation areas like this one encourages more people to enjoy the outdoors and brings people together, which helps council support more active, connected and inclusive communities.”

Mayor Jamieson said this project was a great collaboration between the Queensland Government and council with both tiers of government contributing through the Department of Transport and Main Roads’ Marine Infrastructure Fund and council’s $183 million Capital Works Program respectively.

“As with any capital renewal project, there will be inconveniences along the way and council would like to thank locals and boaties for their patience and understanding during construction.”

Councillor Jason OPray joined Member for Murrumba Chris Whiting and Member for Maroochydore Fiona Simpson onsite today as the first boat was launch from the new ramp. He said completing the boat ramp ahead of schedule was very pleasing as the area is a popular launch spot.

“The upgrade includes a two-lane boat ramp, floating walkway, 45 trailer and 10 car space bitumen car park and connecting pathways,” Cr OPray said.

“This is a fantastic improvement to the previously gravel entry point that lacked parking facilities.

“Formal car and trailer parking improves safety around the boat ramp, and makes it easier for residents to take advantage of our gorgeous Maroochy River.”

Member for Murrumba Chris Whiting said the ramp was a welcome addition to the area.

“Recreational fishing and boating are a really important part of Sunshine Coast lifestyle and the ramp will improve launch operations, as well as make it safer and easier for boaties to board and disembark,” Mr Whiting said.

“I’m pleased we can help deliver this facility for the local boating and fishing community.”
