Sunshine Coast Council has waved a starting flag for a new Bunning’s development at the Maroochydore CBD.

Division 4 Councillor, Chris Thompson said the development approval is a good outcome for a sustainable economy on the Coast.

"The development will create numerous jobs during construction and long term employment in the retail sector," Cr Thompson said.

"A new Bunning’s Warehouse and a four tenancy shopping complex will be established.

"Council’s structure planning process identified mixed use large scale development as the preferred outcome for the site."

Councillor Thompson said the development Bunning’s has proposed is a good fit for the site.

"Council has placed conditions on the development to ensure it is visually appealing and activates the look and feel of the area," he said.

"A landscaped buffer with well established vegetation and a boulevard style entry will provide an attractive outlook onto the street."

The site is located on the southern and western side of Dalton Drive, just east of the Maroochy Boulevard and approximately 200m north of the Sunshine Motorway.

A total of 648 on-site car parking spaces are proposed, including 319 spaces within a basement car park.
