A range of new facilities including a playground, dog off-leash area, amenities building and car park are being added for the community to enjoy in the latest stages of the community master planned Glass House Mountains District Park in the Sunshine Coast Hinterland.

The amenities building and car park are due to be completed in late February 2018, while the other facilities have already been completed.

The upgrade is in addition to significant improvements at Landsborough’s Pioneer Park and Beerwah’s Turner Park, which were both completed recently.

Division 1 Councillor Rick Baberowski said the improvements underway were the third and fourth stages of the community’s masterplan for this remarkable new park.

“Excitement is certainly building as construction for this stage of the Glasshouse Mountains District Park progresses,” Cr Baberowski said.

“This part of the region has an increasing number of young families and is also an important tourist destination.

“But we needed a wonderful mixed space like this one to help us showcase our unique natural environment and it’s fantastic to see these great new parkland facilities being added now.

“The community called for the creation of a ‘must see’ place for locals and visitors and will be pleased to see the community event hub they imagined emerge from the ground.

“The structures built within the park have been designed to reflect the local area, with a combination of Glass House Mountains rock and hardwood used as key materials.”

New facilities include:

  • a playground, shade sail and stone pitched walls
  • amenities building
  • an entry statement, shelter, seating and barbecue
  • fenced dog off-leash area
  • bench seats overlooking the lake
  • pathways, landscaping and drainage works
  • a 15-bay car park.

Future stages of Glass House Mountains include a new pathway and trail network, additional playground equipment, shelter, picnic table and seats, park seats, and additional landscaping.
