By October this year it will be easier to launch your boat into the Maroochy River, with construction on a major two lane boat ramp at Mudjimba starting in April.

The location at the end of Nojoor Road is already a popular spot for boaties.

Director Infrastructure Services Andrew Ryan said a study of recreational boating facilities undertaken in 2011 determined the need for the new ramp.

“This significant upgrade includes a two-lane boat ramp with a floating walkway, a new bitumen car park with 54 spaces and connecting pathways,” Mr Ryan said.

“Nojoor Road has long been used by residents from across the Sunshine Coast and until now has been a gravel entry point with limited parking.

“This upgrade will make it easier and safer for people to launch their boats onto our beautiful Maroochy River and will provide formal car and boat parking so more people can take advantage of this great entry point.”

The area will be closed during construction, from mid-April until completion in late September.

Nearby alternative boat ramps are located at Bradman Avenue and Fishermans Road in Maroochydore and Muller Park on David Low Way in Bli Bli.

The project is funded by Sunshine Coast Council, through its Capital Works Program, and the Department of Transport and Main Roads, through its Marine Infrastructure Fund.
