Sunshine Coast music lovers can look forward to a memorable night with the Queensland Symphony Orchestra to play at a special mayoral performance on Wednesday, September 26 at The Events Centre, Caloundra.
The evening concert will feature the Best of Movie Music played by the QSO and a performance from a specially formed Mayoral Invitational Youth Orchestra featuring the Sunshine Coast’s best young musicians.
At the launch of the special event today (May 16), Mayor Mark Jamieson said he was delighted to welcome the QSO to the Sunshine Coast for the collaborative performance.
“The Sunshine Coast has a strong and vibrant music scene and our local community are sure to enjoy this performance from QSO in conjunction with the best of our own young talent,” Mayor Jamieson said.
“It’s certainly a unique opportunity for local secondary school students to learn from and play alongside the QSO and I encourage any interested musically talented students to register their interest in taking part.
“Council is proud to support and provide opportunities such as this for our local artists and emerging musicians to develop their talents.
“The QSO last performed at The Events Centre in 2016 to a sold-out audience and we’re sure this event will be just as popular.”
QSO chief executive David Pratt said the company looked forward to returning to the Sunshine Coast.
“Queensland Symphony Orchestra is delighted to partner with the Sunshine Coast Council to provide an opportunity for local students to work with musicians from our orchestra and perform for their community alongside our professional musicians,” Mr Pratt said.
The Sunshine Coast Youth Orchestra and the QSO will facilitate the formation of the Mayoral Invitational Youth Orchestra.
Interested students will be invited to participate in a series of workshops on Monday, September 24 at Matthew Flinders College. Students will then be selected for the Mayoral Invitational Youth Orchestra.
Students can register their submissions of interest with their music teacher or via email info @scyo.org.au
