Local artists invited to sing the praises of the Sunshine Coast
Local singers, songwriters and bands are invited to develop a song that celebrates the Sunshine Coast and have the opportunity to perform it live at a birthday concert at the Sunshine Coast Stadium on Sunday August 6.

The concert will celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the Naming of the Sunshine Coast and the selected finalists will have the chance to perform their original song celebrating life here on the Coast.
”Our Sunshine Coast Concert” will be a musical spectacular, conducted by Kim Kirkman, and will draw together local artists and community groups to create an outstanding event to commemorate the 50th Anniversary.
Kim was musical director of The Ten Tenors for six years, worked as a voice teacher at Central Queensland University for eight years and now conducts a number of Sunshine Coast choirs.
In August he will lead the concert which will include a 100-piece orchestra, 200-voice choir, children’s choir and dancers who will all come together to perform at the birthday spectacular.
Finalists in the Songs of the Sunshine Coast Contest will be previewed on ABC Sunshine Coast’s Drive with Sheridan Stewart, in the lead up to the concert celebration, giving the community a taste of what’s to come.
Local artists are invited to enter in either the Open Category or Youth Category for Under 18s.
Major Mark Jamieson said the concert would be a great community celebration and encouraged local artists to participate.
“Over the years many people have written songs inspired by the beauty of our region and what better way to celebrate our 50th Anniversary than with a new song performed by local talent,” Mayor Jamieson said.
“There is a depth of amazing talent on the Sunshine Coast, and we also encourage local singers, choirs or dancers to be part of the Sunshine Coast Concert performance.”
The “Our Sunshine Coast Concert” concert will be held on August 6 from 2-4pm at the Sunshine Coast Stadium, Bokarina. Gates open at 1pm for this free event.
