The Sunshine Coast and the Ironman 70.3 World Championship will be showcased to a national audience this Friday, when Sunrise broadcast live weather crosses from the beautiful beaches of Mooloolaba.

The Sunrise Broadcast will coincide with the Boardies Beach Run race, which is supporting Australia Zoo Wildlife Warriors.

The Boardies Beach run is the Aussie style version of Ironman’s famous “Undie Run” held at the Ironman World Championship in Kailua-Kona Hawaii.

The event is open for everyone – from local identities through to local families – and precedes the Ironman 70.3 world championship race at Mooloolaba on Sunday 4 September.

Visit Sunshine Coast have played a key role in securing the broadcast and CEO Simon Latchford, said it was a great opportunity to further showcase the region and world class event.

“We’re not content with just beaming our beautiful region worldwide via the Ironman 70.3 World Championship,” Mr Latchford said.

“Showing off this event and our surrounds to a national audience with the Sunrise weather crosses was an opportunity we couldn’t pass up.”

Tourism, Sport and Major Events Portfolio Councillor Jason OPray said the broadcast would provide invaluable exposure for the region.

“Having Sunrise broadcast here on Friday, adds another layer of excitement to what’s going to be a bumper of a weekend for the Coast,” Cr OPray said

“The national exposure from the weather crosses secured by Visit Sunshine Coast, is a testament to the great working relationship we have the organization.”

Sunrise will feature 7 live weather crosses throughout the program.
