Support for spaces that unite in Division 6

Spaces that bring our community together will be well supported through Sunshine Coast Council’s 2024-25 Budget.

Division 6 Councillor Christian Dickson said supporting the community was at the heart of every decision made in this Budget.

“We have put community first investing in parks, enhancing public spaces and infrastructure for all,” Cr Dickson said.

“I’m excited to see $5 million has been dedicated to progressing the design of the Sippy Downs Library and Community Venue.

“We have the land to build on, our building and design plans are nearly shovel-ready and we will be working hard to seek additional external funds through government grants to progress the project.”

Another major funding commitment is a further $5.8 million towards the Stringybark Road Footbridge Pathway and Active Transport Link, after works began on the critical link between Buderim and Sippy Downs earlier this year.

“This pedestrian and cycle bridge connects our communities with a significantly safer and more enjoyable route compared to the existing narrow pathway on the vehicle bridge,” Cr Dickson said.

“This comes alongside other pathway network upgrades keeping our community active and connected, with further funding for footpaths at Jingellic Drive in Buderim, Amarina Avenue to Karawatha Drive in Mooloolaba and Garema Court in Mountain Creek.

“Many locals will be pleased to see our $241,000 commitment to replace the worn and potholed footpath at Dixon Road with a new, safer surface.”

A total of $857,000 will fund parks and gardens across the division including the first stage of the Khancoban Drive Park upgrade, with a recent community engagement process guiding project’s design.

“As Council works towards upgrading Khancoban Drive Park to a district park, I’m eager to help deliver a place to serve as a central hub for locals,” he said.

“It’s spaces like these that really build a community, and that’s what this Budget is about."
