Local artists only have until July 16 to submit their entries for the acclaimed Local Artists - Local Content Art Prize, which provides Sunshine Coast-based artists with the chance to win a share in $13,500.

Budding and seasoned artists are invited to submit two or three-dimensional depictions of the Sunshine Coast, with 40 finalists selected to have their works displayed at the Caloundra Regional Gallery between October 17 and December 9, 2018.

Friends of the Regional Gallery, Caloundra President Marie Pigott said now in its fifth year, the Local Artists - Local Content Art Prize was a popular exhibit on the Sunshine Coast arts calendar.

“In past years, we have welcomed some truly spectacular artworks, with everything from watercolour and oil paintings, right through to sculptures and metallic digital prints on show,” Ms Pigott said.

“It is a wonderful opportunity to see the high calibre of artists that we have working right here on the Sunshine Coast – and if you are quick enough you even have the opportunity to purchase one of the works.

“The bar has certainly been set high and we can’t wait to see the diversity of entries that are put forward this year.”

In 2017, more than 130 entries were submitted as part of the competition, with an increased number of local residents, visitors and art enthusiasts viewing the exhibition.

Caloundra Regional Gallery curator Hamish Sawyer said council was delighted to sponsor the 3D category as part of the prize for 2018.

“The prize and exhibition have become a highlight of the gallery’s annual calendar and are a showcase of the best visual arts practice from across the region,” Mr Sawyer said.

“In 2018, we are also offering the main prize winner a six-week exhibition at the Maroochydore Library Artspace, providing an additional incentive for artists from the region to enter”.

Ms Pigott said prize money would include $5000 awarded to the Best in Show and cash prizes of $2000 also on offer for best watercolour, best oil or acrylic, best mixed/other medium and best three-dimensional artwork.

“We’re very grateful to Mark McArdle MP, who has increased his sponsorship to $3000, Mary Henzell Investments P/L who has increased her sponsorship to $5000, Stuart and Kylie Border from Local Agents and Geoff Lyons, Solicitor and Sunshine Coast Council for providing financial and in-kind support and making this art prize possible,” she said.

The entry deadline for Local Artists - Local Content Art Prize submissions is July 16, 2018.
