Up close with Nick Earls in Maleny

The author who gave Queensland writing a distinctive voice – Nick Earls – will share insights into his award-winning writing career at Maleny Mountain Wines from 6.30pm on Tuesday 21 July.

Join the best-selling author for an evening of wine and nibbles as he discusses his latest novel, The True Story of Butterfish.

Nick’s appearance is hosted by Sunshine Coast Libraries as part of an author tour with The Courier Mail Big Book Club in partnership with The State Library of Queensland.

Nick’s impressive writing career started with his best-selling novel Zigzag Street, set in inner-city Brisbane, which won a Betty Trask Award in the UK and is currently being developed into a feature film. His follow-up Bachelor Kisses was one of Who Weekly’s Books of the Year in 1998 and Perfect Skin was the only novel nominated for an Australian Comedy Award in 2003 and has recently been filmed in Italy.

Nick has also written five novels with teenaged central characters and one of these – 48 Shades of Brown – was awarded Book of the Year (older readers) by the Children’s Book Council in 2000.

As well as being a prolific writer, Nick has an interest in humanitarian causes, including the international aid agency War Child, the Mater Foundation and the Abused Child Trust.

His contribution to writing in Queensland led to him being awarded the Queensland Writers Centre’s inaugural Johnno award in 2001 and a Centenary Medal in 2003.
