Vehicles for sale on public land

Sunshine Coast Council has begun an awareness campaign to help owners follow the laws that prohibit selling a vehicle on public land.
Under the local laws, and following the terms of an agreement with the Department of Transport and Main Roads, council is required to manage vehicles for sale on all council and state-controlled roads.
In recent months, it has become an increasingly common sight to see vehicles displaying a “for sale” sign parked on streets, footpaths and in parkland across the region, creating an unsightly environment and posing a safety risk to motorists, pedestrians and cyclists.
If you are selling your vehicle, it can be advertised for sale and parked on private land, with the owner’s permission.
However, public spaces are not for stationary vehicles with signs such as “for sale” or “interested” attached.
Owners of vehicles found on roadways, pathways or parkland with these signs risk receiving an on-the spot infringement of $252.
