‘Albert Einstein’ outsmarts everyone, ‘Black Jack’ knows how to play his cards right and ‘Frank the Tank’ commands attention.

We love our pets on the Sunshine Coast - and it shows in the stand-out names we give them.

There are super stars like ‘Zorro’, ‘Obi-wan’ and ‘Clark Kent’ and others that give off a more chilled vibe like ‘Sunflower’ and ‘Sprinkle Joy’.

‘Suzie Cinnamon Toast’ and ‘Mango Popcorn’ are two of the sweeter pet names on the Coast this year.

Bella continues to reign as the most popular name for dogs, while Luna holds the top spot for cats.

Whatever you call your best mate - their pet registration is due on September 30.

Annual pet registration renewals have been sent out, either by post or email, to owners of the 66,647 cats and dogs registered on the Sunshine Coast.

If you haven’t received a renewal notice, your pet’s details have changed or you no longer own your pet, please contact Sunshine Coast Council as soon as possible to update your details and avoid receiving an infringement.

Service Excellence Portfolio Councillor Christian Dickson highlighted the importance of pet registration.

“It helps Council reunite lost pets with their owners as well as provide funding for services such as education programs to promote responsible pet ownership, reuniting and care of lost animals and animal management within the community,” Councillor Dickson said.

“And it is also required by law.”

New residents urged to register pets

“We anticipate there are many more not registered, particularly with so many new residents moving to the Sunshine Coast,” Cr Dickson said.

“New residents can transfer their cat or dog registration from another region for free if registered within 14 days of moving to the Sunshine Coast. So, if you’ve recently moved, now is the time to contact us and register your pet.

“Or if you’ve added a new pet to your family or had them de-sexed, get in touch and update your details.”

Significant discounts apply for de-sexed and micro-chipped pets, with the cost being just $28 or free for pensioners.

There is also the option of a lifetime registration for de-sexed and micro-chipped cats – only $104 with no annual renewal fee required.

Registration is free for pets under six-months-old.

Renewal of pet registration is due by September 30.
